The week of Pentecost 19
Dear St. Stephen’s church family,
Good afternoon! Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
A few notes for the week ahead:
1. This Saturday is our Annual Fall Supper.
Tickets are sold out! and we look forward to welcoming friends and neighbours to this delicious event. Thank you in advance to Noella and team as they prepare turkey and all the trimmings for a crowd. Volunteers to help set up and clean up are welcome. If you’d like to volunteer, send Amy an email and she’ll let you know the needed times.
2. English language conversation classes continue on Tuesday nights, 6:30-8 pm.
We have partnered with Saskatoon Open Door Society once again, to provide the location and the volunteers for hosting those who are interested in gaining confidence and proficiency in spoken English. Our attendance is small but steady. We had a record 7 adults and 4 children last week!
3. Marriage Refresh—led by Laurence and Anne.
Our next session is on Sunday, October 27th, 6:30-8:30. This past week we talked about Communication. The theme for the coming week is: the 5 Love Languages. All are welcome to attend these relationship enhancing sessions. If you couldn’t make it to the first one, but still have an interest in coming, please feel welcome. We watch a video of Gary Chapman presenting the information, have dessert and coffee and then break off into couples to discuss or take the questions home.
4. Halloween—
Amy will be at the front door of our church, dressed up (not sure as what yet!) and welcoming those kids and families who may be trick or treating in the neighbourhood. The neighbourhood does not see a huge number of children out on Halloween night, but it’s a good way for our church family to be a warm and welcoming presence. If you’d like to donate some treats that we could give out on Halloween night, please bring on Sunday.
5. Youth Group and Confirmation Class—
next takes place on Friday, November 1st, at 7 pm. We begin with a short service together in the church and then divide into groups for either confirmation class or Christian formation.
6. Photo Opportunity!
On Sunday, November 3rd, you will be able to have your photo taken for the directory on the wall in Mitchell Hall. It’s a great way to make sure that we get to know names and faces, which adds to the feeling of our church being a Caring Community. Thank you Jeff and Heather for making this happen!
7. St. Stephen’s Clothing
Is available for ordering until November 3rd. Choose from t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies…all with our beautiful logo. Wear your church on your sleeve!
Parish Cycle of Prayer:
As we near the end of October, we continue to pray for the neighbours and neighbourhood around St. Stephen’s church. We pray for those who are alone, those who are struggling, those who are seeking God. We pray for those who are new to the area, for the schools, children and youth. We pray that our church may be a place of refuge and welcome, that those who enter our church may experience the presence of the Holy Spirit and be drawn more deeply into relationship with Jesus.
In our parish we pray for Kevin and Jen with Alexina and Isabella, and Brian T and families.
