Dear St. Stephen’s Church family and friends,

Blessings on this beautiful Saturday afternoon in the season of Easter. May God’s grace and peace be with you. May he fill our hearts with joy.

"Come and get it, boys!"
Last Say we celebrated a 95th birthday! Here are a few pictures of the cake and celebration. (Spoiler alert, there will be more cake and celebration tomorrow!)
We will be preparing Mother’s Day Gift Baskets for shelters in Saskatoon on Friday, May 9th at 1:00. This is a St. Stephen’s tradition that goes back many years! You are welcome to come and join in the basket assembly line and fellowship. **If you have any baskets around the house, please bring them to church tomorrow or before Friday. We could still use a few. We are also still accepting self care items of all kinds, such as soap, shampoo and conditioner, lotions etc.**  Thank you to Susan and Dimma, who have taken on organizing this project. Donna has been the heart and hands behind this for many years, and has a warm relationship with the various contacts at the shelters in town which she has now passed on to the next team. Thank you Donna! Here’s a throwback to last year photo!
Please note there is no Thursday afternoon Book Study this week. We will read our last chapter of the Liturgy of the Ordinary together on Thursday, May 15th at 1:30. The last chapter is about sleep! Maybe we can have a nap afterwards?

Our next Bible Study at Sherbrooke will take place on Tuesday, May 13th at 7 pm.

We received a last minute Friday night invitation to play floor hockey at the YWCA with the people of Christ Church Anglican. A few of us went over and enjoyed the game, including Machot!

May 16-19th is the Annual Camp Okema Work Weekend. All are welcome to come and help out, pitch in, contribute to the maintenance and upkeep of our Anglican Church camp in Saskatchewan. There is no cost for the weekend–you earn your keep! Young people are welcome, and there will be adult supervision in the cabins for young people who would like to help out. We are blessed to have the Rev Perry and Andrea (and Loralei) in our church family. Perry and Andrea both work for the Christian campus organization, Power to Change. Perry and Andrea are holding a free dessert night for all who would like to find our more or learn about their work and ministry and who might like to support them with a monthly or one time donation. Please see the poster below and keep them in your prayers.
Please note there have been suspicious emails purportedly coming from me requesting the purchase of Amazon gift cards. This is a scam and please never do that in any situation. Do not give out personal information online or on the phone.  Scammers are more and more sophisticated and it’s easy to be caught off guard–the email was from Rev Amy (not my actual email addresses, but my name). Please be careful online and never respond to these sorts of requests. I would never request such a thing nor would any other person in the parish (Linda Bliss received the email and wanted to make sure that everybody knew she would never make such a request either). If you need clarification about anything along these lines, please contact our office or me.

The deadline for our parish newsletter, the Scroll, is May 29th. Please send any submissions to Linda via email or in her mailbox at church. Church mailboxes are in the cubby holes at the top of the stairs across from the sanctuary entrance. Any correspondence for you will be found under the first letter of your last name.

I would like for us to send an article to the SaskAnglican about Machot’s arrival and settlement! Is anybody willing and able to write something up for this? I have photos and can help with editing etc., but it would be wonderful if there was some one in the parish who would take this on. Let me know!

Finally, here is the latest Diocesan newsletter with news from around the Diocese. Thank you to Canon Marie Louise for putting these together and greatly improving the communication hub in our Diocese. It is much appreciated! Under it you will find a link to the newsletter for the College of Emmanuel and St. Chad. The acting principal, Dr. Adam Wright, is visiting our parish tomorrow and will share a few words about the college during the announcements.

American Quaker and spiritual writer Richard Foster has said, “We have real difficulty here because everyone thinks of changing the world, but where, oh where, are those who think of changing themselves? People may genuinely want to be good, but seldom are they prepared to do what it takes to produce the inward life of goodness that can transform the soul. Personal formation into the likeness of Christ is arduous and lifelong.
