Last Saturday, our Youth Group and friends celebrated a 20th birthday party with games, snacks and a beautiful 5 layer chocolate cake! It was a beautiful summer’s evening. Here are some photos:

Our next Youth Event is tomorrow: Friday, September 20th, at 6:30 pm. The 4th Annual Neighbourhood Treasure Hunt, in loving memory of Quinlyn Smith and in support of Camp Okema. All are welcome to this fun jaunt around the neighbourhood in search of clues. Dress for the weather, wear walking/running shoes. Suggested donation of $10 per participant. It will take around an hour to complete the hunt, give or take. Snacks and fellowship at church to follow.
On Sunday afternoon, the St. Stephen’s Malayalam congregation celebrated the Keralan harvest festival of Onam. They prepared traditional dishes, had a tug-of-war, and performed Indian dances. We are so blessed to have the Malayalam congregation at St. Stephen’s, bringing their culture and their presence. Thank you to the Rev. Sunil and Sabitha, for all that they do to serve the church and to all who share their gifts and talents.  Here are a few beautiful photos, including one of newlyweds! Many blessings!

This past Monday, a group met for the first music practice for our new monthly Monday service, Under the Broom Tree. All are invited to come and worship! Monday, September 23rd, at 7 pm. Evening prayer, with music to nourish and strengthen the soul.

Read, Mark, Learn and Inwardly Digest: a Service of the Word, September 24th, at 7 pm, with Rev. Perry. A time of refreshment and conversation follows the service.

Summer Study at Sherbrooke: Tuesday, September 24th and October 1st at 7 pm—a study in 2 Corinthians with Rev. Amy and Marc Cheriyan. Bring your bible.

Thursday BCP service 4:30 pm.

Here’s a photo of our dear parishioner, enjoying a visit with her family in the UK. She is here with her niece.

We have a box of 2025 Anglican Church calendars in the office, available for purchase for $5. Email or leave a message if you would like one set aside for you. We are planning to order BCP calendars also. They will cost a little bit more. We will let you know when they come in.

A parishioner just moved into a new apartment. She is wondering if anybody has any indoor plants or cuttings that need a new home. She would like to create a sense of warmth and brighten up their new space. If you have plants you would like to give to her, please be in touch with the office and we will put you in touch.

And finally, mark your calendars for our annual Christmas church bazaar. The Jingle Bell Bazaar (once Poinsettia Tea) will be held on Saturday, November 16th, with baking, crafts and a new to you table. The ball is just getting rolling. Mark your calendars for now and stay tuned!

With love in Christ,

A few weeks back, when talking about the armour of God, I invited people to share a verse or passage of Scripture that has acted as a “sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God” (Ephesians 6:17) in their lives. I received this contribution from a parishioner. Thank you Janice, for sharing this with our church family, and for encouraging us with your faith.

She writes: Here are my favourite verses. I read them daily to keep me ‘grounded’.

1. Faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see (Hebrews 11:1). Tied to that verse is:
2. …blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. (John 20:28-29) In my job I am asked to provide medication information that is ‘evidence based’. What’s special (and sometimes challenging) about being a Christian, is believing without the same kind of evidence.
My other favourite:
3. Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. (James 5:13) Sometimes I forget that God is there whenever I need help or I think my problems are trivial compared to what others are going through. This verse reminds me to pray. (I prefer to pray for others, actually.) Equally, it reminds me to be grateful to God when things are going my way.
