Second Week after Easter

Dear St. Stephen’s church family,

Greetings in Christ!

Some news for the week:

1. Saturday, May 4th. City Wide Food Bank Drive.

We still need a couple—2? Drivers and a few runners to participate in this important act of service to the community. If you are able to help, please email Amy. Meet at the church at 10 am and receive the map of the neighbourhood you are assigned. Drive around and pick up bags from doorsteps, deliver food to Emmanuel Baptist. The Food Bank is not the answer to poverty, but it does help people, including members of our parish, to get by and stretch their food dollars. Don’t forget to fill up your bag with food and leave it on your doorstep.

Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke? Is it not to give your bread to the hungry, and to bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? -Isaiah 58:6

3. ConfirmMitzvah! Saturday, May 11th.

All are invited to come and celebrate with our confirmation candidates as they prepare to take a step in their faith journeys. Games at 5, Supper at 5:30, Presentations at 6:00 and a social/square dance with caller at 7. Come and support our young people. Sign up sheet at the front door (so we have an idea of numbers), with requested potluck items—Greek Salad, Caesar salad, Quinoa salad or cookies. A donation of $5 per person will also be accepted at the door to help cover costs. If you’d like to sign up but won’t be at church to do so, call the office or email us. And of course, don’t forget the Confirmation Service, 10:30 am on May 12th, Bishop Chris Harper presiding. Let’s welcome our new Bishop as he ministers among us.

4. The Living Room—a program for parents:

Come and make room for God, others yourself. Friday, May 3rd at 1:30. Meet at the Broadway Roastery.

5. Gift Baskets for Women’s Shelters Assembly and Delivery

Each year we put together beautiful baskets filled with toiletries and other small gifts and useful items for women living in shelters or in need in Saskatoon. Assembling baskets: Thursday, May 9th at 1 pm. Delivery to various shelters Monday, May 13th at 1 pm.

Parish Cycle of Prayer:

We continue to pray for our confirmation candidates: for Josh, Rachel, Kaiden, Henry, Nathan, Quinlyn and Garen.

We pray for David and Kristin with Declan, and for Rose M and their families.

Sent with love and peace in this Easter season,
The Rev. Amy
