The Lord sits above the water-flood, and the Lord remains a King forever. The Lord shall give strength to his people, the Lord shall give his people the blessing of peace. -Psalm 29:9-10
Our book study/conversation continues tomorrow with the CS Lewis book, the Great Divorce. We will begin after the 10:30 service, around noon. We will also meet next Sunday, January 19th. Thank you to parishioner Dr. Michael Siebert, for leading us through this book.
On this past Sunday we celebrated the feast of Epiphanyand the coming of the magi to worship Jesus. We shared 3 kings cakes, bejewelled with candy, and a time of fellowship following the 10:30 service. Thanks to the cake bakers! May God’s light guide us through this season as we seek the Lord together.
We held our first in person English language Conversation Circle on Thursday evening. We had only 1 participant! Good thing we believe in the gospel of the mustard seed! We had a wonderful conversation, and lots of laughs. We meet again next week on zoom, and alternate in person and zoom throughout the coming months.
On the subject of repairs, vestry approved the purchase of a new dishwasher for the Mitchell Hall. The dishwasher washed its final load of dishes (after 20+years!) around Christmas. The new one will be installed on Wednesday. Our vestry next meets on Tuesday, January 28th at 7 pm.
January 28th is also the night of the Tuesday Chat Cafe! All are welcome to come and share a potluck meal starting at 5:30. Bring a dish to share. This is a low key time of fellowship, as we share a meal and conversation together. Here are some photos of our Christmas Eve potluck! A time of warmth and celebration.
Our Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, March 16th, after the 10:30 am service. Mark your calendars! The AGM offers us the opportunity to look at the year gone by and to look ahead into the new year. We will share a meal together before meeting.
Youth Group will meet on Friday, January 31st at 7 pm for a giant game of Clue (an annual tradition!). Please see schedule below (last Friday of February, March and April) and mark your calendars!
The first Confirmation Class for youth will take place on Sunday, February 2nd at 2:30 pm. Please plan to attend!
I am still working on the dates and times for the older youthconfirmation class/faith formation group to meet. It may be monthly on Saturdays. In the mean time, older youth please mark your calendars for Saturday, March 29th. We will be serving lunch again at the Friendship Inn, from 11-1:30. There is a limited number of spaces, so please let me know if you can come and help out.
During Lent, we will be holding a book study using Joan Chittister’s book, The Liturgical Year: the Spiralling Adventure of the Spiritual Life. This book will guide us through a conversation about the liturgical year and how it can inspire and inform our worship. This is an ideal study for those who want to learn more about liturgical worship, Anglican piety and our Christian life. Times TBD, but possibly after the 10:30 Worship service (and Lenten lunch!).
Finally, our Thursday afternoon book study will regroup starting at the end of January. We meet Thursday afternoons at 1:30 pm. We will read the book, the Liturgy of the Ordinary, by Tish Harrison-Warren. This book was chosen by Christianity Today as the book of the year in 2018, and offers a glimpse into the sacredness of every day. Please let me know if you would like me to order a book for you. I will order in bulk. You are welcome to purchase on your own or get the book from the library.

Think of God’s patience with us! This thought will help you to be patient; do not try to set the world right, in five minutes. You cannot do it; God did not intend you to do it. And do not be out of patience if your own piece of the world is not in order. You have a great ideal of what is ought to be–what it might be–but you have to be patient under this discipline; even as God is patient. Then again, this helps us to be content. -From The Presence and Office of the Holy Spirit, by Bishop Allan Webb, 1893
Our amaryllis, planted in Advent, continues to grow. We patiently wait!
