Children's Ministry
Children are welcome in all aspects of the life of church, and we work to create opportunities for supporting them in their life of faith.nurturing the next generation
Children are valued members of our church community.
We are grateful for the presence of children among us and for the gifts that they bring. These are some of the ways we support them to share in community, to explore creativity, and to grow in their faith.
Sunday Morning Church School
10:30am every Sunday
We hold church school every Sunday morning. Children are invited to learn and grow through song, creative arts and crafts, games and storytelling.
Nursery Space
Available every Sunday morning during service
We have a nursery space for younger children if they need a space for unstructured play. This space is used with the accompaniment of a parent or guardian.
VBS Vacation Bible School
Once per year
Vacation Bible School has been a part of St. Stephen’s summer ministry in the neighbourhood for the past 15 years! It is a wonderful, intergenerational program that creates opportunities for children to experience the love of God in Jesus through games, snacks, singing and storytelling. The program is a week long, Monday through Friday, from 9:30-12, and we welcome approximately 30 children and many volunteers. We are back after a 2 year hiatus due to Covid! This summer’s theme is KINGDOM ROCK! The dates are: July 17th-21st, 2023. Visit our calendar for details and information.
Church School Picnic
Summer
What says, “school is out and summer is coming!” better than a church picnic? In June, after church, we enjoy a picnic/potluck after church on the front lawn, weather permitting. Games, watermelon and ice cream are the order of the day. We celebrate the gift of the changing season and the joy of being together. All are welcome!
Christmas Pageant
Seasonal opportunity
Throughout the Advent season, the church school and youth prepare our annual Christmas Pageant. This is an ‘all children on deck’ affair, with the story of the first Christmas told in story and song, presented by the children and youth. Most of our children have had a chance to be the baby Jesus! Any children who want to participate are most welcome and the Pageant is presented during church on a Sunday leading up to Christmas. This year, during Covid 19, we filmed our Christmas pageant on the front lawn! You can find this beautiful telling of the good news of great joy on youtube by looking up St. Stephen’s pageant, covid, Saskatoon!
